American Airlines

Pets in the baggage compartment:

  • Maximum size is a series 500 kennel with the following dimensions: 40″ long x 27″ wide x 30″ high.
  • American Airlines will not accept brachycephalic or snub-nosed dogs and cats as checked luggage.
  • The following is a list of brachycephalic dog breeds and any *mix* of will not be accepted:

  • Pet carriers may be a maximum of i23″ long x 13″ wide x 9″ high. Soft-side carriers are allowed, provided that they are water-repellent.
  • Only one kennel per passenger holding a maximum of two pets.

  • No pets may travel to the UK, no exceptions.
  • Not pet may travel when the forecasted weather at the arrival destination is under 45 degrees or above 85 degrees.

Alaska Airlines

  • A customer may travel with a maximum of two carry-on kennels in the main cabin but must purchase the adjacent seat.

  • If your trip includes a transfer, there is a four hour maximum connection time allowed.
  • Alaska/Horizon does not transfer pets to other airlines.

AirTran Airways

  • Only small, domesticated cats and dogs in an approved carrier that will fit under the seat.
  • The pet kennel is limited to maximum dimensions of 8.5″ high x 17″ long x 12″ wide.
  • Six (6) pets are allowed per flight with a limit of one (1) pet per paying customer traveling on the same flight.

In cabin costs: $69 one way.

As limited space is available, advanced reservations must be made. Service animals are always welcome onboard AirTran Airways regardless of the number of pets already booked on the flight.

Air Canada

Pets in cabin policy: Your cat or small dog can travel with you in the cabin on any Air Canada or Jazz flight provided it is small enough to fit and stay comfortably in its carrier under the seat in front of you.

  • Maximum allowable weight (pet and carrier combined): 10 kg (22 lb)
  • Soft-sided kennels are recommended.
  • You’ll need to register your pet in advance for travel on the same flight as yours by contacting Air Canada Reservations. Pets that have not been registered in advance will not be accepted at the airport.

  • Pets are stowed in a pressurized and temperature controlled area of the aircraft.

Allegiant Airlines

Pets in cabin policy:

  • Pets will only be accommodated if they are in a kennel or carrier that fits under the seat which will allow a maximum size of 9″ H x 16″ W x 19″ D.
  • To book a reservation with a pet, contact the Allegiant Reservations Center at 702-505-8888 option 1 and tell the agent you are booking with a pet.
  • Customers traveling with pet carriers may not be seated in exit rows, one row before or after an exit row or in the bulkhead seats for safety reasons since the carrier must fit under the seat.
  • There can only be one (1) pet carrier per side, for a maximum of two (2) pet carriers per row.

Documentation requirement:A certificate from a veterinarian is required. The certificate must be dated within 30 days of the travel dates, stating the pet is in good health, is able to travel and is current on all vaccinations.

In-flight kennel requirements:

  • Only one pet per carrier.
  • The pet must be able to stand up and completely turn around inside the kennel.
  • The kennel must be a FAA approved carrier that can fit underneath the seat.
  • The dimensions for the pet carrier can be no larger than 9″ H x 16″ W x 19″ D.

Aer Lingus

If your pet is flying on Aer Lingus, it will travel in the cargo section of the aircraft. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin. Aer Lingus requires a certificate of good health indicating that the pet is healthy enough for travel, is free of diseases communicable to humans and has been properly vaccinated.

Pets in cabin policy: Only medically certified service animals allowed in cabin.

Pets as cargo: Animals/pets can be booked on direct flights between Ireland and New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, and Orlando on Aer Lingus flights only. The minimum age for dogs and cats traveling as checked baggage is 8 weeks.

Acclimation certificate:When runway temperatures are above 84 degrees at the departure airport the airline may refuse to board the pet in the cargo section. When runway weather are below 45 degrees at the time of departure the airline may require this document.

Aero Mexico

Pets in the baggage compartment:To qualify for travel as checked baggage, your pet should have all the health documents required by your destination and should be able to remain in the kennel comfortably for the duration of the entire flight. Only domesticated cats, dogs, and small caged birds are allowed. The minimum age for dogs and cats traveling as checked baggage is 8 weeks.

Documentation requirement: Owner must present current vaccination record and license.

British Airways

  • Traveling to the UK can be a long process for most pets. Pets must be microchipped and licensed with all current medical records.

  • If the pet is between 23kg but under 32kg, it will be charged as two excess units of baggage plus $32.
  • Additional charges will occur for animals who weigh over 32kg.

Documentation requirement:You must provide valid health and vaccination certificates to addition to other documents required by the country to which you are flying.

Restrictions/Special notes:

  • EVA has suspended the transportation of live birds.
  • Australia: Pets are prohibited to be carried to/ from Australia as unchecked baggage in the cabin or checked baggage in the load compartment.   • The container must be suitable for the species being transported and appropriate for air transportation.
  • The animal must be able to stand, turn and lie down in a natural manner (this rule will vary by species).

  • Food and water containers suitable for the species being transported must be provided inside and accessible from outside the container.
